Spelling and Homework Update

Some of the students got their spelling tests back today, and the rest of them will get them tomorrow. I wanted to talk with them a little about them before I sent them home. The tests went well for the first time. I know that we can improve though. Here are this week's words... As this point in the year the homework load will be picking up a little bit. The packets of math homework that are being sent home, I am not expecting that they do these all in one sitting, instead I want them to do the parts that will solidify what we covered in class that day. If they are just doing the whole packet, that doesn't benefit them. As always please work with your child, and encourage them to do their best. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Here are this week's spelling words:
1. people
2. than
3. first
4. water
5. been
6. oil
7. who
8. now
9. find
10. call
11. frontier
12. survive
13. nearby
14. orchards
15. wild

Changes in Spelling

Hello All,

I hope that everyone had a very nice holiday weekend! Below are this week's spelling words. The spelling test will look a little bit different. We will be testing the words, but instead of just writing them, the students will be using them in a sentence. There will also be a sound that we will be focusing on. This week's sound is the /k/ sound. Here is the spelling list, it will also be coming home with your student today.

1. time
2. has
3. look
4. two
5. more
6. write
7. number
8. see
9. way
10. could
11. announced
12. arrived
13. glum
14. members
15. rebuild

Enjoy the week and happy spelling. Call me if you have any questions.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving week everyone! We have a short week of school this week, and because of that we will not be having a regular spelling test. A list of Thanksgiving themed words will be coming home, but there will not be a test on it. I hope that everyone has a fantastic holiday. If you are traveling for the holiday weekend, I wish you all safe journeys.

iPads

It has been a very busy and exciting time for our class. This past Friday our iPads arrived. Here are a few pictures of the students starting them up and exploring with them for the very first time. A special shout out to all of those people who worked many many hours on getting these up and running!

Exploring the menus and how to navigate through all of the "apps."

Looking up the weather on the Weather Channel app. Does it look like its going to snow?
 Hard at work.
 Don't they look excited?
Setting their faces as their backgrounds so we will know whose is whose. We wouldn't want to get something that important mixed up, would we?

Critters and Company

Last Tuesday we had some guests come and visit us at Sibley Elementary. Greg Olson from Critters and Company came to our school to teach us some lessons about attitude and behavior using animals. Above is one of the visitors: A great horned owl!

Read for the Record

This past Thursday for Homecoming week, our class participated in the national Read for the Record day. We all read Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anne Dewdney. It was also pajama day at Sibley. Many students and staff came to school in our pajamas and brought blankets, pillows and stuffed animals.

We had a couple of visitors come to Sibley. Two alpacas came to see us. The alpaca is a close relative of the llama, they are a little smaller, but look very similar to them. These are all pictures of the kids with the alpacas.
